Coughcoughcoughcoughcough. Blame it on the allergies.
Man, the past month has been Jam-Packed with excitement and tales of derring-do. Moving, new job, unpacking, niece visiting, still in Same New Job. I’m telling you … Thrills!
The Move and the New Job are obviously, the biggest deals that are going on. Packing was quick and easy, as I’m a pretty Light Traveler. That’s something I held over from living in Colombia. I was always so ready to move to the next place, and I never really had all that much down there to begin with. I think the biggest hassle was my footlocker, which had about 100 CD’s at the time.
I thought I was some Hot Shit having all that music then. 10 years before iPods. Imagine.
The New Job, as it has now come to be known, is awesome. I can’t say enough about how much I’ve enjoyed it so far. It’s been much more enjoyable than I ever imagined, getting back into a classroom. It’s so similar to what I did before in South America, that it’s been a relatively smooth transition. I’m the Head Teacher, which has caused a little bit of Ruffled Feathers amongst some of the other teachers. Nothing that’s been said outright to me, but I can totally feel a vibe with certain people when I roll in. That’s ok. If I’ve learned anything over the past couple of years, it’s to let minor things like that just roll off. It’s been a hard lesson to come by, but I think I’m finally starting to grasp it.
Anyway, I spend the mornings teaching English as a Second Language, and then in the afternoons I concentrate on more administrative tasks. Basically, I serve as an assistant of sorts to the Diretor of Studies. There’s been alot more to learn than I ever could have imagined, and I’ve definitely had my share of “accidents” that I’ve learned from … all the byproduct of a new environment, I would imagine. Anyway, my Boss has been very patient and encouraging with me, and I can’t say anything but positive things.
The other teachers, for the most part, have been great, too. There are a couple I’ve become somewhat friendly with, and that’s always helpful. The first days are such a “new kid at school” type of feeling, much like any new job, but thankfully I think I’m getting over it.
I hope I’m singing the same tune three months down the road. HA!
I’ve been able to catch a couple of shows here and there. If Leftover Crack and/or Whole Wheat Bread mean anything to you, stay tuned to this page over the next few days. The LoC show, in particular, was an Experience. And Punk as Fuck. Believe it.
I’ve gotten alot of music over the past few weeks, too. I couldn’t pass up renewing my once-dormant emusic.com account, so I’ve gotten about 200 new tracks over the last month or so. Some really great stuff (Hello, Nothington!), and more World/Inferno … and that’s always a good thing (no matter what Melissa may say).
I don’t mean to be such a myspace whore … but there’s music on them there pages.
And while you’re doing it, go see Shep. He Rules.
